Rose Quartz Lamp

The Rose Quartz Lamp is more than a light: it is a memory. A signal turns it on and it stays on once the signal is gone. Placed in a group, the lamps make a selector: lighting one switches all the others off. And a comparator tells which one is lit, from its distance.

A signal lights it

A button lights the lamp, which stays lit and powers a repeater; with three lamps the button moves the light from one to another, and a comparator shows its position on a Nixie Tube.

A button is enough: when the signal starts, the lamp lights up. It looks brighter and pinker when lit than when dark.

It stays lit

The lamp powers a repeater

The button pops back, the lamp stays lit and powers its neighbours at strength 15: here a repeater, which lights its dust. The dust that lit it stays powered too, by the lamp itself: that is what the code does, and our simulation shows it.

What it powers

While lit, the lamp sends 15 to all its neighbours except other lamps: dust, a repeater, a door, a piston. When dark it sends nothing. So each lamp in a group can drive its own machine, and only one runs at a time.

Lamps in a group

Three lamps stuck together in a group

Two more lamps, stuck to the first one: they form a group. A group takes in every lamp that touches another, within 16 blocks.

How big a group can be

The group counts every lamp linked face to face within 16 blocks of the one getting the signal. Beyond that, lamps no longer switch off together. Keep each selector well apart from the others.

Only one lit at a time

Another lamp lights up, the first goes dark

The button, moved in front of another lamp, lights it and switches off every other one in the group. It is a selector: the light points to the last button pressed.

Reading the position with a comparator

The Nixie Tube shows 13

A comparator against the row gives 15 if the lit lamp is the first, 14 if it is the second, and so on. Here a Nixie Tube shows 13: the light is on the third lamp.

With the Wrench

The Wrench lights the first lamp

A Wrench click switches a lamp on or off by hand, without touching the others. In the loop the third one goes dark, the comparator drops to 0, then the first one lights and it climbs back to 15.

Making Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is crafted from one Nether Quartz and eight Redstone Dust, then polished with sandpaper. The lamp adds a Redstone Dust and a Zinc Ingot to it, shapeless.

Build ideas

A floor selector: one lamp per floor, a button in front of each, and the comparator telling where to send the cabin. A recipe picker for a factory: each lamp turns on a different line. With links, the buttons can be far away.

Common mistakes

Two groups stuck together by mistake become one: leave a gap of one block. Dust touching the lamp stays powered while it glows, which can power other machines by surprise. The comparator only reads in a straight line.

What the loop shows

Our simulation follows the block's code: the lit lamp also keeps the dust that lit it powered, whereas the in-game scene turns it off. The comparator and the Nixie Tube show the computed values. The player and the Wrench are not drawn. Lit and dark lamps use the game's own textures.
